The Power of Story!

http://tinyurl.com/y7wljpqt
I remember the day I listened to my daughter read me a personal story.  It was her story, specifically a chapter in which she shared that she was Gay.  Somehow, I was completely ignorant of this important piece of my daughter's life.  It was a tough story for this Christian Mom to take in.  It was a tougher one for my daughter to tell!  Yet it opened up my heart to a huge blind spot...and ultimately to my God-given purpose... To encourage and connect those who feel left out or alone.

Sometimes a story needs to get personal before it can bypass the mind and lodge in the heart.

Do you have a story to share?  Has a story impacted your life in a profound way?  Have you ever had the desire to write or speak your story to the world?  Are you simply a lover of stories?

If so... I want to invite you to a very special event in Charlotte, NC on Nov. 4th... click away!

Help For Christian Parents of LGBT Kids.

image from www.ccmostwanted.com
I love the Marin Foundation! They are a friendly and helpful presence for so many parents who are trying to navigate the questions, fear and concerns many of us experience following a child's coming out.

As part of the ongoing effort to provide resources for Christian parents of LGBTQ children, The Marin Foundation has created an online video series called “Parent Perspectives: Journeys of Faith with our LGBTQ Children”.  In these videos, Christian parents of LGBTQ children share their personal stories in the hopes that other parents can learn from and be comforted by their experiences.

Just Because He Breathes Testimony

Dear Parent of a LGBT child,

The link below could be the most important video/testimony you may ever watch. I pray you will set aside 40 prayerful minutes to enter into the Robertson's story.  Pass it on to your Pastors, friends and family as you feel led.

I have had the great honor to meet and become friends with Rob and Linda Robertson.  By God's design, we share the image of the dandelion as a sign of hope.  If you are a parent who is struggling in the tension between personal faith convictions and wholeheartedly loving  your LGBT child, please set aside 40 prayerful minutes to experience this powerful and life changing testimony.

In the midst of their intense pain and loss, This precious couple continue to point parents to this God honoring precept...

Love People. All People. Just Because They Breathe.

Please Love Well,
Kim

What is a Dandelion Mom?

What is a Dandelion Mom? I'm so glad you asked!

A Dandelion Mom Is....

Rooted in a vibrant and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Honest about the struggle in reconciling traditional faith convictions with the reality of loving their LGBTQ children well.

Growing toward a wider expression of the grace and love of God as we seek to understand the character of God as we support our beautifully diverse kids in their own faith journeys.

Trusting Christ with ourselves, our questions and our kids.

Releasing our need to control, our spiritual pride and our fear as we recognize that God is well able to direct our paths and our kids for His glory.

Sowing seeds of compassion and understanding and grace into our families, our churches, and communities for God's glory and for the unity of the body of Christ.

Dandelion Mom's gather quarterly in and around Charlotte, NC , and Atlanta, GA  to encourage, equip and spread love!

Our 'With Us' God

Today we celebrated Christmas. The day God sent us His son to be with us as Savior, Lover and Redeemer.  As I enjoyed the day with my husband, my daughters and their fiances, I was overcome by a sense of intense gratefulness. Though we exchanged wonderful and thoughtful gifts for which I was thankful, this deeper sense of thanksgiving mixed with joy and contentment came after the presents, not because of them.

I glanced around at my family. Our day had begun early and, about mid day, several were comfortably napping on the sofas. Safe and secure. We were healthy, amicable, wonderfully imperfect and content to spend this holy day with each other. It occured to me that the uncomplicated joys of sharing a meal, sharing our lives and our love of Jesus is perhaps the truest way to celebrate Christmas. Simply being with each other.

Over 2000 years ago, Mary brought forth a son and named him Jesus. He would save the world from sin, bring new hope and new life. He would make a way for unity, reconciliation and authenticity. He came to make himself at home on the well worn sofas of our hearts and share His abundant life with us. Make us all family. He came to be with us. Our Emmanuel.

This Christmas I want to thank you for modeling Jesus for me. You have been with me on this journey of writing Dandelion Winds and have encouraged me in too many ways to count. Your graciousness has not gone unnoticed. Every response, every call to check in or admonishment to keep going has been appreciated. Every idea or offer to help edit, design a cover, listen or share your expertise has been a precious gift to me.  So, I want to thank you. Especially today and especially now as I finish this work God has given me to do.

May 2015 be a year of immense fruitfulness, joy and purpose in your lives. a year in which the nearness of Jesus is felt in every facet of your precious lives!

Hugs!

Kim
